The Crit #11: Ilse Crawford
From highlights to lowlights, our new podcast The Crit invites leading designers to reflect on their careers and pass judgement on their own work!
Every fortnight, Disegno’s editor-in-chief Oli Stratford sits down with a leading designer to speak about their career and help them to interrogate their own practice. Each episode, they’ll tell us what worked best; what failed; what pushed their career to new heights; what feedback most shaped their practice; and what they feel needs to be redesigned.
At the end of the episode, to complete their crit, they’ll be asked to give themselves a grade for their career to date: fail, pass, commendation or distinction.
It’s a design-school crit, delivered every fortnight! Subscribe to the show here, or sign up wherever you get your podcasts from.
Episode #11: Ilse Crawford
For our eleventh episode of The Crit we welcomed designer, teacher and creative director Ilse Crawford into the studio for a discussion about creating spaces that promote health and wellbeing.
Crawford is the founder of Studioilse, a collective of architects, designers journalists and filmmakers, and her projects range from designing interiors for luxury hotels and airport lounges to mental health centres and community kitchens.
By designing robust systems and taking into account the psychology and physiology of a space, Crawford aims to integrate measurable values such as increased quality and revenue alongside unmeasurable values including communicating care, trust, and generosity.
Listen to the episode to hear Crawford review her career to date, from reflecting on the importance of the client-designer relationship to sharing her dream of designing care homes.
