The Crit #31: It’s About Time Morris!

August is a notoriously slow month for design news, but rather than joining in with the silly season, this episode of The Crit brings you the studious season.

Hosts Oli Stratford and India Block recap a trio of reports that turn up the heat on how design impacts our planet. Released by Arup, Urge Collective with the Design Museum, and Yale Law School in collaboration with the American Bird Conservancy respectively, the reports examine Urban Heat Islands, reducing the carbon emissions of touring exhibitions, and building safer cities for birds.

In the products and projects section, the hosts revel in the engineering prowess of a ball-and-socket lamp and laud the merits of football kits that incorporate the decorative designs of William Morris.

The episode includes an interview with Olivier Lacrouts, one half of Studio d-o-t-s, who joined us from the studio’s nomadic curatorial practice to discuss their School of Phyto-Centred Design
