In January 2024, Disegno will produce a pair podcasts at Maison&Objet in Paris, recorded from the heart of the fair.

Taking place from 18 to 22 January at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center, this edition of Maison&Objet centres around the theme “Tech Eden”, inviting exhibitors and participating designers to respond to ideas surrounding technological innovation and nature.

To delve into these ideas further, Disegno will be hosting Conversations in Tech Eden: how can design connect to nature? These podcasts will invite a selection of designers and exhibitors at the fair to explore how design might use technology to create more sustainable products, spaces and installations.

This year, the fair is also celebrating its thirtieth anniversary, with the theme chosen, in part, to envisage a possible future for the next 30 years in design. As such, French practitioner Mathieu Lehanneur, whose work has often centred around the integration of nature and technology, seems a fitting choice for the fair’s Designer of the Year accolade.

Lehanneur is a multidisciplinary designer, whose work covers spaces, furniture and products, and who is also the designer of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic torch. Lehanneur has a long history of creating products exploring air, water and earth, and his practice is also interested in science, technology and the future of urban mobility. He is, as such, well placed to respond to this year’s theme.

The fair will also feature a selection of international designers who have been nominated for its Rising Talents Awards, as well as the announcement of the Future on Stage winners, a prize focused on encouraging up-and-coming design brands and entrepreneurs.

More broadly, the fair is continuing its interest in the intersection of design and hospitality through its “Hospitality Lab”. This area aims to provide both inspiration and practical solutions for the hospitality sector, and features a Trend Forum curated by creative strategists Peclers Paris, which is intended to offer suggestions on future “hybrid” hospitality experiences. Alongside this is a digital and physical showcase designed by REV Studio, which was given free rein to design a space that could represent a creative interpretation of hospitality.

The podcasts will be recorded during the fair and subsequently published on Disegno Podcasts, available on all streaming platforms.
