So Long 2021, Hello 2022!

A paper snowman created by Mensten (Yasuyuki Sakurai and Risa Sano) for Disegno 2012. This year, both Mensten and Disegno celebrated their 10-year anniversary.

2021 is drawing to a close and the Disegno team are quietly filing their papers, turning off the lights, and locking the (virtual) door. See you in what everyone can only hope is an improved 2022!

It's been a year of peaks and troughs, but Disegno has been proud to write about and reflect on the design industries over the course of our changing world. In fact, 2021 heralded the ten-year anniversary of Disegno. A decade on it feels an even more complicated world than when we started. The design world is still grappling with issues of social injustice, coupled with a climate crisis and the current pandemic, but we’ve also seen a growing appetite for new ways of thinking, working and designing.

In the past 10 years, we’re proud to have been able to shed some light on the intersection of design and these issues and to feature some of the bright minds tackling them. Thank you to all of our writers, photographers, collaborators and subjects who have made this possible.

If you'd like to see some of the things we've been up to this year, why not pick up copies of Disegno #28 (digital only), Disegno #29, Disegno #30 and Disegno #31, all of which are available from our online store. While you're there, you could also check out our subscriptions: they make a perfect last-minute gift for the design lover in your life.

In the interim, don’t despair for content – there are plenty of stories online at disegnojournal.com to bring you succour while we’re gone. For example, our latest episode of The Crit looks back on the year, with the team nominating the architecture and design projects, trends, and heroes and villains who made 2021 what it was. This and all our back episodes are available online and on Spotify, Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

We'll be back in the new year with more podcasts, projects, and information about the next issue of the Quarterly Journal of Design, due in spring 2022. Thank you to all of our subscribers for their support this year – we can't wait to share our plans for 2022 with you. And to share some of your plans, projects or stories that you’d like to suggest for the spring 2022 issue, why not reach out to us at submissions@disegnojournal.com.

We wish everybody a happy and healthy holiday!
