Event Invitation: Correct for the Time?

What does it mean for a product to speak to its time?

Many of the great designs of the 20th and 21st centuries have been celebrated for their sense of timeliness, and the feeling that they arose naturally from the industrial, social and technological context in which they were designed. But what might this sense of timeliness look like in product and furniture design today?

These questions and more will be investigated at “Correct for the time?”, a panel discussion hosted by Aram and Disegno on Thursday 6 June. The evening will consider how designers can respond to challenges such as the climate crisis, rising numbers of renters and smaller homes, and the increasing blurring of domestic and working space to design objects which speak to their time and endure into the future.

The panel discussion will feature interior designer and gallerist Max Radford, as well as designers Shawn Adams, Jaclyn Pappalardo, and Amelia Stevens. The event will be moderated by Disegno’s editor-in-chief, Oli Stratford, and will coincide with Now 4 Then, an exhibition at The Aram Gallery curated by Radford and featuring work by Pappalardo and Stevens.
