Event Invitation: Are We Having Fun Yet?

Join Disegno for a games night exploring how the physical world of design and architecture can learn from the digital spaces created in video games – expect conversation, drinks, and plenty of games to play throughout the night!

Co-hosted with Flokk, IIyama and Posturite, the evening will feature a panel talk featuring Rhiarna Dhaliwal from Xcessive Aesthetics; Marie Foulston, co-curator of Videogames: Design / Play /Disrupt at the V&A; and Alex Wiltshire from Mojang. The talk will then give way to a curated selection of contemporary and retro games, available to play throughout the space at gaming stations kindly provided by Stone.

The Are We Having Fun Yet? panel talk will explore some of the tenets of video game design and how their treatment of digital space could influence other fields. From games’ potential for fun and escapism, to their ability to transform identities and bring alternative values and ideas to the forefront, the panel will consider the importance of games to society, and the opportunities presented by their being embraced by different design fields.

Following the talk, there will be a selection of games available for guests to play throughout the space, which have been curated by the panellists and event organisers to offer fun, new perspectives on design and space, and opportunities to play together with other guests. The evening is intended to be open and accessible to all comers, with no need for previous experience of gaming to enjoy!
