The company behind design brands including B&B Italia, Maxalto, Flos, and Louis Poulsen has announced a new retail space in Copenhagen.

D Studio will be based in a series of historic buildings in Holmen, a neighbourhood in the city that occupy the former grounds of the Royal Naval Base and Dockyards. The studio will be a retail space for all design brands owned by Design Holding, a group controlled by investment groups Investindustrial and The Carlyle Group.

Design Holding describe D Studio as “a place to meet, collaborate and connect with the very best of contemporary design culture, a natural go-to point for design lovers and professionals.”

The space is 1,760sqm, and will include the Design Holding brands B&B Italia, Maxalto, Arclinea, Flos and Louis Poulsen. Design Holding has also promised “an interactive experience within the store [that] will merge physical with digital” that will go “far and beyond the standard digital offering based on screen technology”.

Copenhagen will house the first D Studio, but the brand has announced that subsequent versions of the concept will open in Milan and New York in autumn 2021.

The Design Holding group was established in 2018, with lighting brands Flos and Louis Poulson joined by furniture company B&B Italia as founding members. The group exhibited for the first time at the Salone del Mobile in 2019, with a 4,000sqm stand.
