Disegno is seeking an assistant editor. The role involves working across all areas of editorial produced by Disegno.
Disegno is the leading quarterly journal dedicated to long-form writing on design and architecture, and how these fields shape current affairs and contemporary culture. The journal also operates Disegno Works, a creative agency that works across the design industries. Disegno is based in London, but its remit, clients and distribution is international.
The assistant editor will support Disegno’s editor-in-chief in devising, commissioning, producing and editing all editorial produced for the journal and Disegno Works, as well as Disegno’s website and events programme. They may also co-host and edit The Crit, the monthly design podcast produced by Disegno.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the identity of the journal and Disegno Works moving forward. They will commission, edit and write long-form essays and reports for the journal, as well as working on shorter editorial texts and commercial copy.
Alongside this editorial work, the assistant editor will help manage Disegno’s social media channels and monthly podcast, The Crit. It is anticipated that the role will involve developing stories for the podcast, serving as an “on-air” host, and editing audio.
This role will suit an editor with two to three years of experience. The successful applicant will be organised, self-motivated and creative, with an exemplary portfolio of published work.
Disegno is currently working remotely, but the team regularly come together in co-working spaces in London.

Essential skills and experience
Extensive experience of working in an editorial environment
In-depth knowledge of magazine production, preferably gained on a comparable journal
Knowledge of and interest in social media
Experience of managing freelance writers and photographers
Knowledge of subediting and proofreading
A portfolio of long-form journalism
Experience of producing and editing copy for commercial clients
Experience of or interest in audio editing
An interest in and knowledge of contemporary culture
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work to tight deadlines
Responsibilities of the role
Working with the editor-in-chief to develop and commission all of Disegno’s editorial and commercial writing projects
Serving as a senior writer and editor for the journal and Disegno Works
Helping to manage and support all of Disegno’s staff with editorial tasks
Subediting and proofreading writing produced by Disegno
Helping organise production of Disegno
Overseeing Disegno’s social media accounts
Helping plan, host and edit Disegno’s podcast, The Crit
Attending relevant industry events and representing the journal

Salary: £25-28k, dependent upon experience
