Event Invitation: Through the Fun House Mirror

Join Disegno and Rimadesio for an evening discussion about design’s potential to open up different futures, and present new, more inclusive values and aesthetics.

Hosted at Rimadesio’s showroom on London’s Wigmore Street on Wednesday 3 July, the event will bring together expert speakers to explore design’s potential, and limitations, as an engine for change.

While design often reflects existing paradigms, the talk will explore forms of practice that aim to be transformative, foregrounding new aesthetics, ideas and social values. Rather than meet the needs of the status quo, can design help to shape new ways of living, or foreground alternative perspectives.

The panel discussion will feature designer and researcher Nina Jang, a member of the interdisciplinary Resolve Collective; Tigris Li, an artist and creative technologist; and Tobias Revell, an artist and designer who leads Design Futures at Arup and is founding director of design research consultancy Strange Telemetry. The event will be moderated by Disegno’s editor-in-chief, Oli Stratford.

Through the Fun House Mirror

Design often holds up a mirror to society, reflecting its existing preoccupations and social values. But what happens when design begins to transform those reflections, shifting the familiar into something new? Join Disegno and Rimadesio for an evening talk dedicated to the potential of design to reflect different, more inclusive, values and aesthetics, highlighting practitioners whose work seeks to transform the existent, and use design as a means to show society a new image of itself.
